Don’t despair. Take note of my Top Five All-Time Favorite Comfort Foods and eat yourself happy again. You may gain a few pounds, but who cares when you’re feeling all warm and contented inside?

1. Pancakes—Whether you have them for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a midnight snack, there’s something about the humble pancake that not only satisfies your sweet tooth, but wraps you in memories of childhood Sunday mornings.

2. Meatloaf—There’s practically no need to even do the work of chewing, snookums, when you indulge in this effortless entrée. Just enjoy the flavors, the undemanding texture, and the satisfaction of a full belly.

3. Mac and Cheese—Yes, Virginia, there are a million different recipes for this gooey delight and all of them spell comfort.

4. Cereal—We are not talking oatmeal here, but the unhealthy, sugary treats that take you right back to Saturday mornings and watching cartoons in your jammies. Think Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Frosted Flakes, and….

5. Cheeseburgers—Best from a diner and adorned only with American cheese, the usual condiments, a pickle slice or two, and on a soft bun. There are gourmet Wagyu beef versions out there, turkey versions, veggie versions—and all are good, but nothing comforts like a classic.
