M.A. Church's Top Five Favorite Songs

Thursday October 05, 2017

When I was asked to do my Top Five, I racked my brain trying to figure out what to do. As I was getting ready to type something up, I plugged in my ear buds and turned on Spotify… and it hit me, lol. Music. I listen when I write, walk, drive, or just sitting on the back porch. Until I stopped and thought about it, I didn’t realize how much of an impact music had on my life. So here are five of my favorite songs.

1. No More Tears by Ozzy Osbourne. This is my top favorite song and also a pen name I wrote under on a free site long ago. It’s definitely not a sweet, uplifting song. In fact, if you listen to the lyrics, it’s very macabre. It’s about a stalker who torments women in a red-light district.

2. December by Collective Soul. I love the song. It also triggered a lot of questions about what it’s exactly about. Some say it has sexual connotations. Others believe certain words pertain to the Bible, and yet others believe it’s about friendships that have gone south.

3. Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Well, lol, there’s little doubt what this is about. Listen to it you and you’ll find it’s a guide about delaying orgasm. When the song was released, it caused a lot of controversy. Some of which I remember.

4. Enter Sandman by Metallica. Another song that’s pretty clear. It’s about childhood fear and nightmares. It’s based on folklore of the Sandman. It’s kinda creepy.

5. Man in the Box by Alice In Chains. This is reputed to be a song about censorship of the mass media. There have been questions about veal made from calves kept in small boxes and how that affected the song.
