Cops and Comix

I’d had a sneak peek at Alex as he popped up in Murder and Mayhem so it was great getting to know him better in this short story.
Alex and James had sizzling chemistry and I loved their romance arc, the mystery part was interesting but it was constrained by the length of the story.
Despite being a murder mystery there were definitely laugh out loud moments and I enjoyed every minute reading this.
Short stories are notoriously hard to write and Rhys succeeds admirably at it with the whole story packed into 38 pages.
Well worth a read!

This book is super short only like 40 pages or so. But it was really cute. I enjoyed reading it and I really liked the characters. The ending was a little abrupt and open-ended so I am not quite sure how that will factor into the “series” this book belongs to, but hopefully that means we will get to see more of these two (I have yet to read the Murder and Mayhem series, so don’t hold that against me. Lol).

Alex was adorably geeky with his own comic shop, and James was his perfect opposite match being a Homicide detective. It was super weird that dead bodies kept showing up around Alex, but perfect that James was there to make sure he was ok with everything that kept happening. The two guys had great chemistry together for it being such a short book. I really just wanted more of these two. I will be adding this full series to my To-Read list.

This author is well known for her fiendish delight in murdering people. Well, characters, not real people. At least, I don't think she's actually killed any real people, but, then again, who knows? She sure is creative about murder. Poor Alex. Nothing quite like opening up your comic book store for the day and finding a dead body in front of your discount table. Not just any dead body, either. One that's been dead for a while and is rotting on your carpet. Okay, eeewwww. Then again, Alex does get to meet James, the LAPD detective who gets the case, and the attraction between the two is smoldering. Typical Rhys, however, the romance is cruising along after James solved the first homicide, when poor Alex gets another dead guy in his shop. This time, the dead guy is dressed up for their homage to Lovecraft. Killing people right, left, and center.

I love a good whodunit, although Rhys, you're going to need to expand this story because there's just too much good in here! This was such a fun, slightly gory, escape into pop culture, with a ton of laughs, and a sweet romance. James and Alex are great together, and their first date is a laugh out loud moment, and I so want to see more, more, more of this story.

What's not to love about a sexy homicide detective and a cute, nerdy comic bookstore owner meeting and falling in love over a dead body!
At first glance Alex and James would seem an unlikely pair. Having met over a murder mystery they just click on so many levels. This story is sexy, sweet, just the right amount of snark and delicious!
I gobbled it up and was left wishing for more.
