Lily Velden

Hi, I’m Lily Velden, a quirky artist with a passion for the written word. So, a little more about me... Let's see... I admit to being unashamedly idealistic, ridiculously romantic, and positive, even in the face of Armageddon! I live on the east coast of Australia, having emigrated from Holland as a child. Teachers and friend alike scratch their heads about me as I hold qualifications in both Finance and Fine Arts. I tell them that my way with numbers will make me a profitable artist and writer… one day. I've always been an avid reader with a love of language and a beautifully crafted sentence. So much so, I often incorporate text into my artworks. When a shoulder injury slowed down my art practice I decided I'd 'paint' my pictures with words. Not that I've abandoned my artmaking in its entirety—I designs the cover art for all my books, and of late, for other authors too. I'm passionate about many things, here are just a few of the PG rated ones: My children Laughter that comes from the belly A stranger smiling at me The smell of freshly mowed grass and baked goods Beautifully crafted sentences Good art Red wine (but not if I've had a little bit too much of it…) The sweet smell of the air after it rains Watching a storm A warm sun on my back and a cool breeze on my face Seeing an email from a friend in my Inbox... So feel free to drop me a line! On the flip side here are some things that make me frown: Hypocrisy Double standards Intentional cruelty Intolerance And so-called friends that don’t tell you that you have spinach between your teeth!
